ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30), and Michael Morgan on July 2, 1989. Morgan and her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played many activities as a youngster, but only began to play soccer when she was 14 years old. Morgan was a member of the Cypress Elite club team and won the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. Morgan also finished third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to improve her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was named an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also played for states and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her first season. She was instrumental in bringing the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was one of four finalists for the Honda Sports Award and the first Berkeley student to make the list of Hermann Trophy finalists. Upon graduating a semester at the beginning of 2010, Morgan was ranked third in the history of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at the collegiate as well as national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an injury to her ACL in her first season with Berkeley. This kept her from taking part in U.S. women's soccer under 20 until April 2008. Morgan scored her first international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, earning her team a gold-medal. One of these goals was a win against Italy that gave the U.S. team the final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team, and he led the U.S. team to victory against France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
